My Car Died... Of Carbon Monoxide.

1998 Ford Escort.

50,400 Miles.

Death by carbon buildup in the first cylinder. Cost to repair would be $4000. Car value was $2000.

I said I would drive the car into the ground. I did. (At 50k for miles, I am very disappointed in Ford. 10 years out of a Ford, ok, happy with them.)

I also said my next car would be a hybrid... ...Ford's only hybrid is an SUV. Bleh.

I am now leasing a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid.

- It doesn't have a key...it has a fob.
- Sometimes the car doesn't run the gas part. The car is completely silent.
- Pickup? There are -two- engines under the hood. It can go when it wants.
- You gain energy braking.
- Many more cool things.

I didn't buy it because I wanted to be all environmental.  If I wanted to do that, I would have bought a Prius. This was to send a message to support Toyota and hybrid technology. This was my part as a national security issue to reduce dependence on foreign oil.

I went from economy car to full size. I skipped the full size. I suppose this is the beginning of middle age...
